Room 117 Students were able to get into groups and decorate their pumpkin according to their assigned "fall" book. Each group had to read their book together and discuss how they were going to decorate their pumpkin according to the main character of the story. The students LOVED it, and the pumpkins turned out great!

Children love Science and our students sure proved that with our pumpkin investigation. Ms. Riplinger gathered a few different types of pumpkins: small, large, orange, and green (yes, a green pumpkin!), and the students made predictions about the pumpkins. The formed a hypothesis about how similar and different all of the pumpkins would be. They also predicted if the green pumpkin would look the same or different than the orange pumpkin. We then made Venn diagrams before and after we cut the pumpkins open and discussed the results. Look at the pictures to find out what we learned.
Next, the students were able to get into groups and dig into the pulp of the pumpkin to dig out the seeds! Today, we met again with our buddies to read stories, find out the main character, and decorate our pumpkin to resemble the main character. The students had a blast and it was a fun and new way to learn about a book! Some pumpkins are still not finished, but the students were VERY creative! See all of the fun that was had today with pumpkin decorating in the pictures below!Be sure to check out the pictures from carving pumpkins (yesterday) if you haven't already done so!
Oh, we almost forgot to mention that we all enjoyed tasting the two types of pumpkin seeds that were made from our pumpkin carving yesterday! We all agreed that pumpkin seeds are very YUMMY! Today, the students got together with their buddies and got to carve pumpkins! It was so exciting because some of our students had never carved a pumpkin before! Ms. Maguire and Ms. Riplinger carved out the top of the pumpkin, so it was ready for us to clean out! The students were brave and reached right into the pumpkin, pulling out the pumpkin goop! We made sure we collected all of the seeds, though! Tonight, all of the seeds are being dried out and baked by Ms. Maguire and Ms. Riplinger! We will get to enjoy the deliciousness of the pumpkin seeds with our buddies! Tomorrow, we will read stories with our buddy, discuss the main character of the story, and decorate our pumpkins to look like the main character! Don't worry, moms and dads! We will have those pumpkins on display at the parent-teacher conferences next week! We can't wait for you to see what we have created! See all of the pictures below of all the fun we had!
